Alright, here I have a question one of my Palmdale friends once asked me. As a Christian, is it okay to kiss your girlfriend? You wanted a random question and you got one.

Blogger amanda said...

Haha, that's a funny question. I don't think I would kiss my girlfriend....

I have to think real hard about what one of my questions was... so I'll be back in a few. Ok, I'm back. I still can't remember though. Sooo, I have to think again. Ok, well, I forgot this was here and I still don't remember so I'll have to comment later.

girlfriend kissing is pretty much between you and God... althoughI'd say that 1) You gotta be careful else it goes too far too fast, and 2) I haven't met a Jr. Higher yet that was ready to be kissing.

Lompoc fireworks aren't very good, in fact they're bad. terrible, dissappointing, boring, retarded, repetitive, monotonous, (don't think i spelled that right), and.... just lompoc.

Anyway, more on the subject, if you get to live in Santa Barbara for 2 days and one of which is a sunday, and you're church is an hour away, what should you do, A) wake up an hour early and go to church in lompoc, B) go to church in santa barbara or C) go shopping in Ventura?

5:07 PM
Blogger Ricky said...

I say answer b. You don't need to go to Lompoc for a Baptist church as long as Santa Barbara has it's own. Just my opinion. I SAW PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN!!!!!!!!! IT WAS AWESOME!!! LEFT YOU AT A CLIFFHANGER AT THE END, BUT THAT'S WHY THE SEQUEL COMES OUT NEXT YEAR!! WOO-HOO!!!!

I'm working on Refugio... but there's been a big mutiny for Pismo. It's kinda up to the group. Honestly, I'm thinking they'll win with Pismo...
Sorry, but have a great time camping!

8:23 AM
Blogger Ricky said...

Hmm, I don't know which one to go to. I haven't been to Pismo in a super long time, so I don't remember what it's like. So, I don't care. Hey Chris, what do you think of the Red Hot Chili Pepper's CD? That's a random question.

4:45 PM
Blogger The Carters said...

Hey, I keep trying to get that CD back to you... did you know there's a tweak (scratch?) around track 14 on the 1st CD?

Anyhow... I liked it. Some of their stuff is classic Red Hots... still don't know what they're talking about though...

WHAT DO YOU MEAN A SCRATCH?!?!! I HOPE IT'S NOT A SCRATCH!!! Anyway, yeah, I don't know what they're talking about either, except on the song "Dani Califorinia." What do you think was your personal favorite song?

I don't get it. "The heart is deceitful above all things," and then "Follow your heart," and then "God is in your heart, listen to your heart." Which one is messing me up and which one is right?

2:49 PM
Blogger Ricky said...

"The heart is deceitful above all things," is, in my personal view, the correct statement. Sometimes I find myself wanting to do things I know is incorrect, but then I just hear this thought in my head going "Oh, forget it, just do it anyway." So, I would say the heart is deceitful.

3:36 PM
Blogger amanda said...

Yeah. That's usually how it is for me too. But sometimes people are like but you have God in your heart so you can listen to it. But then sometimes that doesn't make sense. Then it's like, you're old enough to believe what you want to and you should search things out for yourself. And then my head is like going 1,000 miles an hour trying to think and then I don't sleep for a long time.

3:51 PM
Blogger Ricky said...

Yeah, uh, if the Bible said follow your heart, I would do it, but the Bible says the heart is deceitful above all things. People are wrong. We see them screw up all the time, BECAUSE THEY FOLLOWED THEIR HEART.

sort of random question, actually I have a few others but I'll post them one at a time. how do you manage to act like a Christian without becoming hypocritical? because I have had experiences where I have either felt like a hypocrite for admonishing people for behaving in ways that I've struggled with (and am struggling in, in some cases), but then if I give in to a situation that I feel is wrong, I feel like I've let God down. how do I manage being an upright person without becoming hypocritical about it?

...finally beat Solitare!

Dark Chocolate: here's a couple questions/comments to complicate your complicated question.

1) What should a Christian act like? Who defines that standard? I know the quick answer is "love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, self control..." but what exactly do each of those things look like? And usually Xtians want to add stuff like "dress code, language useage, number of tats, and color of hair..."

2) See MAtthew 7, especially verse 4. Balance between first guarding your heart, then helping others guard theirs.

3) Stop sinning!

4) Hypocrites are not people who struggle with sin. Hypocrites are people who judge others for thier sin, while pretending like they don't sin.

There's more thoughts, but they refuse to come out right now.

What'cha think?

Okay, so the best answer for how a Christian should act is like Jesus. It's cliche, but that's the reason we're called Christians, because we are supposed to emulate Christ in our life. He didn't necessarily have a dress code, and he never judged people based on their outward appearance or what they had done in the past, and He was perfect, so we know those are things Christians don't do. So it's not a matter of following a rulebook like the ten commandments, but asking yourself "What would Jesus do in this situation?" Right?
Matthew 7 is the 'judge not that ye not be judged" passage, which does make alot of sense. But, I find that more and more that as Christians become older, they tend to begin judging people more often than not. Like, if another Christian stumbles, they'll start talking about how he stumbled behing their back and saying things like, "I'm glad I've never done anything like that," or, "Can you believe what a bad person so-and-so has turned out to be?" Which really irks me because as Christians we are supposed to build each other up, and that sort of talk just tears people down. So, any advice on how to avoid letting myself become self-righteous, I guess?

I think that what the werse is implying is that the Jews will always be first in God's heart, which I agree does sound like favoratism, but they are God's chosen people after all. The Jews first is also reflective of the way Jesus ministered: he came to the Jews first but also came to the Gentiles when they came to them. To me, it just sounds like God is giving priority to his chosen people first, and is extending the invitation to the Gentiles after them.
