Servant Evangelism Project

Hey Calvary! Obviously you made it to my blog.

Here's what I'm looking for from you. Spend a few minutes thinking about how Saturday went for you and your family. Talk to them about what they think. Then write a few sentences here about what the experience was like. Here's a few ideas to get you started, but you certainly don't need to just answer these.

- What were your thoughts going into the project? Scared, excited, resistant, nonchalant?

- As you were passing out the batteries, did you find yourself engaging with people, or standing 'on the sidelines'?

- As you got part way through your batteries, did you feel more or less fear? Did you feel yourself getting more excited about the project? Why?

- What were some of the responses of the people you 'showed God's love to in a practical way'?

- How do you feel now that the project is over? Would you do it again?

- Do you have any creative ideas for doing Servant Evangelism projects on your own?

Feel free to post any of your thoughts. If you have any problems drop me an email at cartersfour@impulse.net.

And thanks for being part of showing God's love in a practical way to over 300 Lompoc families!

I wanted to begin by telling you that as of Monday morning (October 27) we had 41 CBC families signed up to 'share God's love in a practical way' with their neighbors. THAT'S AWESOME! I am so excited to hear the stories as you take part in what God has for you this Saturday.

Rebekah: "It was fun and I was nervous. Then I got less nervous. It wasn't hard at all."

Danielle: "It was kinda fun because it was my 2nd time doing it. And I hope we can do it again because it was so much fun. It's cool to show God's love to people."

Emily: "I think it's cool that people's response seemed to be genuine surprise-- like 'that's cool'!"

Chris: "People don't like opening their doors to strangers, which is kinda sad. But it's fun when they do, and realize we're not asking for something but giving something instead. One lady said 'it's like giving energy[battery] for energy [God's love]'"

I was very apprehensive to go door to door.
I saw my neighbor across the street and gave him the battery. He Thanked me and stated that he hadn't read about the time change.
Then GOD tested me .. 6 houses that didn't answer the door (not home or wouldn't come to the door(2-3 cars in driveway?)
I kept going and delivered a total of 9 batteries. They all thanked me and hlf didn't know of the time change and need to change batteries.
I'd do it again. Ron Hinshaw

So my family and I just got done with our passing of the batteries. I found it very uplifting. The people were very grateful and surprised. Most the people who answered their door were actually college aged guys and one went on even to say 'Right on! God bless you brother!' I would gladly do it again

The Aldridge family is done. We were a little apprehensive at first. We each delivered 2, and each ran into people who already changed or had their own batteries. The people who took it were thankful and appreciative, and one man even asked us to say "hi" to God for him. Sounds like a prayer happening.:) We are happy to have a non pushy way to spread God's Love.

My 6 year old signed us up to deliver batteries. I was encourage by her motivation to go talk to our neighbors. Today she lasted through about 4 houses which was pretty good. When the time came I was reluctant to actually get up and go. In the end it was really fun to talk with people and get to know them since many of us are new to the neighborhood. They were each very appreciative of the battery and several of them were very willing to talk for a long time. One said honestly that he had "done church" and didn't need to worship in a certain place. It gives me an idea of where he is coming from and to be praying for him. It was a great way to get to know people and I can see us taking time to talk more often.

I ended up going out on my own, I didn't want to lean on my husband or kids to make the contact, which I know I would do. I didn't engage but instead made the contact short. I don't know if it was for my benefit or theirs. I don't like people I don't know to be at my door, so I felt intrusive being at their door uninvited.
Most of the people were receptive and grateful, 1 was indifferent and 1 seemed irritated to have to answer the door and then turned down the gift, but at least he wasn't rude about it.
I wonder if intelligence tends to group with other intelligence 'cause all my people knew about the time change. Hmm, interesting.
I'll do it again, but I'd rather go with others and hang back and silently pray over the people during the contact.

I kept putting it off until it was "now or never," so I finally drug myself out the door in the afternoon. I thought I would finish in 10-15 minutes, but 1 1/2 hours later I returned home. Everyone was very gracious. It was a chance to say "hi" to neighbors I knew & a chance to meet the ones I didn't know. One couple (who I met for the first time) asked what church I attended, & I invited them to visit us. It was a reminder to me that I need to be more concerned about the people around me . . . to let God's love shine through me. Thanks, Chris, for encouraging us to reach out to others in our community.

From Dianna Williamson:

I passed out 9 batteries, about 1/2 weren't there. I felt like Santa-- to see the shock on people's faces it was kinda fun!.

The kids and I had allot of fun. It was hard to keep them at one house for very long since they wanted to run door to door. We did stay and talk to quite a few neighbors though. At least 4 families didn't realize the time change took affect that same night. One family asked how much did they owe me and I had to explain that it was my pleasure to offer them safety and help through God's love. The last house was the funniest - my daughter wanted to give one to a friend of hers that was a few blocks away. After arriving at the house she thought was her friend, it happen to be the wrong house. Not being shy at all, I started to explain our function. They were an elderly couple and soon accepted our gift. It took a bit of time to convey our purpose, and for their shock to wear off. By the end of the conversation, we all had a great chuckle and my daughter and I went home. The next time we do this, I think the kids will want to hand out more batteries.

From Betty Thompson:

I didn't get to Costco (9 pack), but went to Walmart and got a pack of 6. Of 11 homes I went to- 6 people were home (or at least answered the door).

3 people were very cordial and glad I reminded them of time change. Had very good visit with the 3 others. One even asked me to thank Pastor Chris. A good idea!
